Our history doesn't span 100 years. The company began in a kitchen in Magnolia, New Jersey. I was given a bag of pumpkin seeds [pepitas]. I love pumpkin seeds and I was very happy to receive a bag that had no shells. Beth Gonzales had bought me a bag at a oriental food market. Unfortunately when I popped a couple in my mouth I found they were raw. That is just how they tasted-Raw. I took a cupful and added a little oil and Old Bay seasoning in a frying pan. I was surprised when the seeds actually "popped" as they cooked. Not as big a pop as popcorn, but they were dancing in the pan. More importantly, when they came out of the pan they were really good. I took some to work with me at West Jersey Hospital in Camden, New Jersey that night and shared them with a few nurses in the ER and ICU. They were a hit. Over the next few months I tested many different recipes [those same nurses being human guinea pigs], until I found the ones I wanted. My first web site was on AOL [there still is a link page at http://members.aol.com/boblistman/ ]. This was my first foray into the internet. It didn't take long to outgrow AOL. The web site you are looking at today could never be up on AOL. At the same time I was moving into the internet I also had to find a place to do the cooking. I couldn't run an actual business out of the kitchen. I guess you could say there was divine intervention. My brother Andy and his wife Gina were members of The Church of the Good Shepherd in Berlin, New Jersey
and Father Paul offered the church kitchen as a cooking area. It was inspected and was in every sense a commercial type kitchen. Our logo is a VERY loose interpretation of the church. While the cooking and packaging is done there, shipping and receiving is done out of the Trent Court address. We will be moving sometime in the next month or so as soon as I find a rural area that has a building I like. Finally, I just want to say we are proud of our products. You will not find any better anywhere. I know that is true because I cook every seed. I buy only the best spices and seasonings from Penzeys, Ltd.. Thank you for visiting. |
